The second old haunt of the day
The George on Great Portland Street.
Four real ales available. I am trying the Goodwill bitter by O'Hanlon's in Devon. A nice rich 5% Christmas tipple.
Today I managed to revisit one of my old haunts, The Cock on Great Portland Street, just round the corner from Oxford Circus in London.
As it is a Samuel Smiths pub a wheat beer was in order.
Some of the single malts enjoyed at the Whiskeython at the Glue Pot, Swindon for my birthday this year. Bunnahabhain, Laphroaig, Jura, Aberlour and Tobermory.
I managed (after 4-5 missed gigs) to go and see Piston Groovy back at the end of November at the Rivermill in Eaton Socon, St Neots. Whilst space is a bit tight in there for a live band, the gig was grea and with the exception of an elderly gentleman who had to walk right past the speakers to get out, mouthing FFS with fingers in his ears; everyone rocked out!
On the 7th September I decided to celebrate my 38th birthday with another run on The Glue Pot's single malt shelf. 18 single malts in one session, last attempted (and passed) back before Christmas 2010.
Could it be done for a second time or was it a one off?
A quick survey of the single malt shelf was needed before starting.
Every now and then Chairman Mole pops in for a cheeky Gin and Tonic at The Glue Pot in Swindon. He is a rogue and a bad influence. It should be real ale and nothing less.
Back at the end of April, I took a visit to Bayham Abbey on the Kent and East Sussex border.
Bayham Old Abbey is an English Heritage property, located near Frant, East Sussex, England. Founded c. 1207 through a combination of the failingPremonstratensian monasteries of Otham and Brockley, Bayham functioned as an abbey until its dissolution in the 16th century. The ruins were partially modified in the late 18th century, to provide a better landscape feature during landscaping of the new Bayham Abbey mansion park, and were donated to the state in 1961. Chalk Stream by the Ramsbury Brewery. This is 5% but a very rounded premium ale which is very smooth and very morish. Well worth an afternoon session on. Not a good lunchtime drink unless you have an understanding boss.
